Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I recently posted a basic primer on personal branding. Nothing unique there, but I did split my observations into creative, online, content types, versus corporate, strategic, results types. At the end of the post, I give some simple next steps everyone could do to get started in this area. For those people you are looking to help that might benefit from a simple primer, this might add some value:

http://www.davecrainonline.com/a-personal-branding-primer.html

I hope to turn this into a series with some more detailed insights for both the business types and the content types.

BTW - great sentiment here. Glad to see the community helping itself.

It is so great to hear from my readers and a broader audience! There have been some fantastic offers of support and expertise...and I want to make sure I take this further. There are two projects in the pipeline - the first of which is to gather up these resources and offers of support and get them on a single page. I then plan to use my wonderful network to get these resources to our Federal Government Agencies, and private enterprise so that they can provide advice and expertise to those who need it most! The second project...well I will be in touch with those who offered their support directly to update you on this venture...thanks again for your wonderful offers of support - it is greatly appreciated!

I was just counseling a woman who is dealing with depression after being laid off. She thought there was something wrong with her because she doesn't feel any ambition to update her resume and apply for jobs.

I told her that her feelings were natural. She is a very talented, creative woman who is afraid that she will end up with a job that doesn't tap into her passion. She wants something more than just a job to collect a paycheck. She deserves better than that, but she feels pressure as her bills mount up.

To battle her depression, I've talked her into starting a journal, where she will reconnect with herself by writing down those things that she is really good at. Those things she's done in the past that made her feel good. Those things she does now that makes her feel good.

She's already discovering that a common factor from years ago to now, is that she feels the most reward when she is helping people. Tapping into her passion will help guide her in a search for a job where she will be happy.

That's what George and I do at Bigg Success, and we'd be happy to help anyone facing a tough career change.

Dear Luke,

Thanks for your message.

I personally am convinced that the media and those that play up to them (politicians et al) have significant ownership in the current situation. The state of the economy, like many other things, becomes a self full-filling prophecy of the information that is disseminated. Recipients of the information think about it and discuss it with their family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in the context of the information reported; few question it or challenge the legitimacy of what is being stated as fact. And therein also lies the clue to turning it around.

Helping people re-brand themselves is an area in which I am already active at the higher levels of the business tree, and would welcome the opportunity to contribute to others whose career journey has been recently interrupted. Please let me know how I can help.

Apart from yourself Luke, three other people I would also recommend people connect with are Ben West (Australia ... for assistance in securing serious C-Level roles ... despite my background I have learnt so much from Ben), Phil Rosenberg (USA ... see Phil's comment above), and Michael Wolff from ki work (USA ... also see above) for a commercial approach to this area if anyone is thinking of getting involved but does not quite know how.

Hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hey Luke! You’re certainly right that we’re in a unique postion to help people who can truly benefit from what we offer. Actually, William Arruda and Reach Strategists have already launced a Career Bailout, here in the US. You can find details at The Personal Branding Blog, http://snipurl.com/4i8gn or at my site: http://snipurl.com/44o94. Now, the question is: how can we coordinate our efforts to deliver the most benefit? Let me know what you think.

Hi,

I am also touched. Job uncertainty is not just one's agony, it also infects the family.

Your effort to increase personal branding is great.

I hope my tips in: http://marketinggossip.blogspot.com/2008/02/people-search-in-linkedin-hunting-for.html will help.
